Alex asked me to make an R2-D2 for him. I used windshield wiper motors for the drive wheels and servos to make the body lean forward and back and for the head to spin. Another servo was rigged next to an electronic circuit that says “Bee boo boo bo boop beep” whenever you press the button. The body was made of an aluminum trash bin, the head was a salad bowl and the legs were made of plywood. I found a 12V wheelchair battery and hard wired it to a DC power adapter that you plug in to recharge. You control it with an RC transmitter.
We occasionally play with this it the park across the street. The kids do all the driving. It’s hilarious to see people’s reactions to our clunky robot driving around the park. It’s not really a robot, of course, but the kids don’t mind.
